This 12AE7 was designed to run from nominal 12V battery.
with a plate voltage of 12.6 its a medium to low mu tube..

Could this be of good use to the diy world??
Thanks.

can some one who is "tube wise" tell us. what components in a tube amp circuit would be needed to induce a lowmu tube into distorting (guitar pedal)??

simply driving the input beyond it's clean headroom... Just add gain stages until it's fuzzing the way you want. That said, I'm not THAT tube wise, yet my experience tells me that lower mu tubes don't sound great distorted. EG 12au7, not a great overdrive sound from that one. Kinda farty, muddy and not as pleasant as, say a 12at7. Of course, the circuit has a lot to do with it also. There aren't a lot of overdrive circuits designed with low mu tubes in mind, wince you need a lot of gain to overdrive a tube.
