Hi,
I need to do a PSU for an old 8 channels mixer.
The mixer needs a 2amp PSU.

Until now I've only did PSU's with Lm317/337 (1.5 amps max)  and 78xx/79xx (1A to 1.5A max depending on suffix)  types of regulators,.

What would you advise me as a possible DIY'able PSU to achieve 2 Amps?

thanks

With all of the nice + regs out there, I agree, this is the way to go.  Never did trust a negative anyway...........

I've done this using 2 separate PSU's using LM388 (5A version of KM317) regs.  I stack them to give the + & - .    i.e connect 0v to +v on the other PSU to give you the 0v/ground rail.    This is how it's done in the AMEK Einstein.

Thanks I will check the Lm388 and how to implement it in a PSU circuit.
Never used it before.

I actually dont need negative rails,
I just need +22V at 2 amps minimum for the mixer and 48V for the phantom.
The phantom power feed is easy.

Is this IC as easy to implement as the LM317?

thanks

The LM338 is exactly as simple to use as a 317.    You use pretty much exactly the same circuit, just sub in the 338.  There are plenty of circuits if you google.

I built a supply to feed 2 Lexicon LARC's built into a Hammond style cast aluminium box using these for a client.  They've been switched on for nearly a year now with now problems.  Just make sure you heat sink them.  In my case I just bolted them to the Hammond box with an insulating kit.
