This is my own design. It is a preamp built around an 83 (yes a mercury rect.) and a 12au7 in the audio path. Yes the audio runs through the 83. It really brightens up the bass and gives it a nice mild crunchy kinda sound. If anyone is interested I'll post some clips and a schematic if I can figure it out again. (i'm still fixing and changing it. I've got all of it working except for some noise which i havn't gotten around to fix.)
The 83 clips a little more on one half of the audio (because it is acting like a diode) which halfs the frequency. Enough of the original bass signal passes through that it sounds nice and crisp.
