Yes, that company, but that 500-pre is way too new for that album… Could be any Inward Connections high-end tube or solid-state gear made since mid-late 80s to around the early-2000s.

The basic idea remains, that is, that the microphone is usable with hardware processing or in DAW through plugins, provided you know what you are doing.

It was a unit from late 90’s/2000’s kind of almost like a lunch box, with two vertical Valve/Tube EQ’s 3 bands and also limiters. Amazing sound.
The Røde NT-1, AKAI MPC 2000 or MPC60 (he had both) for programming. And of course a Jim Dunlop “Talk box” on the Moog.The sound !

Right.This thread has turned into a brainstorming mess. I think it was a kind of release, like a group therapy.

The Dunning-Kruger effect perfectly describes the behavior and inability of some people to recognize their own level, precisely because of the lack of knowledge in the field. And because of personal overestimation, and the acute lack of critical, rational thinking.

Most studios have a wide range of mics to choose from for a good reason - not every mic is suited to a particular voice/acoustic guitar/guitar amp/snare drum/saxaphone………
They also provide different acoustic environments for recording of different instruments like vocal booths and live rooms/drum rooms.
Each instrument will have an ideal acoustic environment, a particular acoustic space will have a mic that is best suited above the others available for a specific instrument, there may be a particular mic pre that is best suited to that mic, there may be a best audio interface suited to that mic and pre combination.
The likelihood of possessing all ideal stuff is not high in a home studio on a budget. It comes down to using what you have available and getting on with the job - but looking in the right place if problems do exist and not chasing the wrong solution.
If there’s a major problem with the acoustic environment then there may never be an ideal mic for a particular instrument or voice. This applies especially to listening back to recorded material in the same space that the recording took place, room errors compounding the problem.
