Did PV ever make a mixer in the 1970s with aux/FX sends which zeroed at 12 O'clock and were post fade in one direction and prefade in the other? (or was it (a) someone else or (b) a figment of my imagination?).

IDK.... I worked at Peavey for 15 years (85-00) and don't recall ever seeing one like that during the 15 year time frame.

I think I vaguely recall a cheap plastic Teac or Tascam mixer from early 80s that did some kind of trick with center detent pot that may have done something weird like that. I can imagine doing it with grounded tap mid rotation, but adjustment wouldn't be very intuitive. with off at 12 o'clock, and max at full CW or full CCW (it would probably have lousy pot kill).

One time (before Peavey) when I was working at Loft/Phoenix Audio Lab, we borrowed a cheap mixer to use for a trade show booth demo. I literally had to take the back off the mixer to trace out the internal signal routing....
