Hi,

have you seen this?

http://www.manleylabs.com/containerpages/di99.html

A tube DI Box. After searching this forum and googleing a bit I neither found a schematic nor other infos.

Has someone here thought of building such a thing? I would be interested.

THANK YOU!!!

One of our members just completed a tube DI. Maybe they will drop by.

It's just a hi mu triode input stage like you see in a guitar amp, but instead of driving a second voltage amp, they drive a stepdown x-former to get the signal into 600 land. You can mod a mic pre to double as a tube DI so you don't have to build a seperate project. Many people say they love the way a Telefunken V72 sounds when modded as a tube DI. In fact, they like it so much that Olliver at Tab/Funkenwerk now sells a tube DI. If you want to come out better than M-ley, use the low noise EF804(s).

See the G9 also. It has a transformer bypass circuit on the input that could possibly be used for guitar or whatever you play.

CJ, is there any schematics on the V72 DI mod? I have a V72 with a DI and it looks like they just bypass the input Xformer I think the DI hits the box my the 400 Ohm resistor.

check the schems on the jensen website. There is a schem there for a tube DI, Im pretty sure thats whats in the aguilar DI. Just a 12ax7, some caps and a transformer.

yes, I would be really interested in the V72 mod as well!! Anyone?

Another vote for the G9 (i use it for bass guitar). You get 2 channels of DI and as a "bonus" an awesome sounding 2 channel mic preamp :thumb:

I thought about this very piece at one time. If you want the low end rolloffs, you can just use different values of coupling caps on a multi-pole switch, either at the input or between the tube out and the trafo.

HTH!
