I forget where I first read about this, but I added one to my recent Jameco order which was for some 74xx TTL chips for Ampex ATR-100 repairs.

https://www.jameco.com/z/ICS-01-R-Jameco-Benchpro-IC-Pin-Straightener-for-0-300-and-0-600-Wide-ICs_99363.htm

I used that tool the first time this week and now I don't know how I ever got along without it! New (and my case, NOS) chips always require the pins to be bent in order to insert into a PC board or socket. For decades, I would carefully press each side of the chip against a hard surface and often have to fiddle with the pins using pliers to make final adjustments.

I am leaving this one at the Church studio (the owner paid for it after all) for future ATR/etc. repairs. Next Jameco order I make, I'll buy another one for my own toolbox.

Highly recommended!
