we have a circuit that uses 10 ohm 1/4 watt resistors that get shorted across a 120 volt line.
the voltage drop pulls in an scr to do the real shorting.

but for a second there, you have 10 or 12 amps = 100 times 10 = 1000 watts thru that resistor for 1 milli second.
how much heat is that?

wifi amps are rated for 1 watt, lets say.
well, they figure you will only trasnmit half the time, the rest you are downloading porn, so its really only good for 1/2 watt continious.
so an audio op amp, what is its duty cycle?
depends on the program material.
