Hey Jeremy, sounds like we're on the same page!
Cloning the coil is what I've been thinking about.... There seems to be some inherent weakness in the original coils (perhaps an inevitable one due to the extremely thin wire) - which has resulted in
many units out there with one or more dead coils. I think if we could make new coils again it would bring quite a few units back from the dead.
Ideally, I was thinking this would be a great thing to do "open source" - i.e. publish the winding specs, dimensions, materials etc (CJ style) so that anyone in the world with the skills can make their own, or have them made by a professional winder, in the future.
I was planning on taking mine apart and measuring inductance, resistance, core AL etc but realistically this might not even happen this year for me as I have a very busy year.
What's the next step in your plan? Do you have any contacts for someone who can measure and dissect the original coil? Or is this something you or Dan are planning to do?
I'm down for whatever, "open" or "closed" source - I need a coil, and I know of 2 other units who's owners would probably be interested in a coil or two also...
Basically, i'm on the team! ;D
