I need to make many channels of audio delay and my old faithfull 16 bit delay module (CS4231 based) just doesn't cut it in todays 24 bit world. Looking long and hard at the Wavefront "ALxxxx" series DAC,ADC and DSP. They come in easy to use SO16 packages and the price is good. Has anyone out there tried them and if so, how do they stack up against the top end Crystal Semi converters on the market.
cheers

The Wavefront ADCs and DACs are reasonably OK, but they are showing their age and are no longer in the top league with Crystal Semiconductor, Analog Devices and some of the Burr-Brown (TI) parts. You may want to consider devices you can use at 96KHz, whch rules out the old Alesis (Wavefront) parts.

Maybe for a delay line you don't need highest specification, but I reckon an ADC-DSP-DAC box would get used for more than just delays.

However, I think the problem you would have is with the Wavefront DSP. It doesn't really have enough internal data memory for building multi-channel delay lines. You would be better off looking at the Analog Devices Blackfin or the TI TMS320 DSPs. Microchip have an interesting new DSP extension to their PIC devices called dsPIC.
