Altec 1566a strange gain control problem

I've just completed my Altec 1566a build, but when the gain control is at 3/4 it seems to kind of oscillate a little then cut out as the pot is rotated past that point.

Has anyone encountered this issue before?

Does it do it on both the hi and lo gain settings??

Cured now!

The lead to the first plate was stupidly long, it seemed capable of picking up NASA signals heh
