A mate has a wonderful old Ampex ATR100 which needs repair. I suspect it's above my pay grade. Is there anyone out there in the UK who knows these beasties and who can repair the input / output modules that sit in the meter bridge?

The machine fires up and the transport & controls are alive but the two input / output modules above the transport are dead

The PSU was recapped about four years ago and everything looks & smells OK. The two internal & 2 external fuses are OK

I removed the two input / output modules and one has a blown fuse. With both inserted the meters don't illuminate or move. With the RH (blown fuse) module removed, on power-up the LH module meter kicks & illuminates for about half a second only

One of the modules smokes very gently when the machine is powered up for around 15 seconds. I can't see which or where it came from

Ideally I'd find someone who has an ATR and who can test & repair the modules. Maybe there's a shorted tant and it's s simple fix…

Machine is in Brighton, Sussex

Change all power rail tants to panasonic (FC/FM/FR)
on all PWAs.  It may save you a FIRE !!
