Yeah.....that situation put me into quite a mental quandary!!! So.....what would -- YOU -- have done in the same situation? Claim your income on a highly-classified top-secret project, while exposing the existence of said project and putting God-knows what into some form of jeopardy.....just so you can be "righteous"??? Or, do as you were told in order to protect the interests of the United States and defend our country's freedom? It's a rather conflicting tough call.....I know!!! So, I chose "my country" over the IRS. How does that sit with you?

Over my design engineering career and because of where I live, I have worked with all manner of defense contractors and other military-related companies around my area here and I have been exposed to all sorts of -- unbelievable and uncanny -- projects, some of which you would believe are pure "science-fiction"!!! Working on some of these projects has also shown me that sometimes..... you have to do something what is technically "wrong" because it is the only "right" thing to do!!! But, YES!!!.....morally, some of these decisions can wreak havoc with your own personal ethics.

[Hopefully well past the statute of limitations by now] -- While I would personally guess that since this particular event took place well over 35-years ago, that the "statute of limitations" has expired. Except..... -- UNLESS -- .....you are the New York County District Attorney, who doesn't care or follows federal statute of limitations laws, I suppose he could fabricate a tax-evasion case against me, just as he has done with this other well-known person who has been in the news recently. I suppose I should be looking over my shoulder now, huh???

Sure, he also led missions to bring home POW’s and was a “secret astronaut” too! I think you are safe!

I think if the industry had caused problems for its most trusty contract engineers, they would do it a different way.

YES!!!.....all of the things that I have written within all of my responses within the many threads here in this forum are all true, no matter how "unbelievable" they may come across as and/or sound. As in.....YES!!!.....I -- AM -- the guy who plugged a 9-Volt battery into a CROWN DC-300 in order to temporarily power a British mixing console backstage for a New Years Eve concert in Indianapolis.

[I think if the industry had caused problems for its most trusty contract engineers, they would do it a different way] -- The many interactions that I have had with various defense contractors over the past decades has definitely shown to me that -- THEY -- will do whatever it takes to get their projects done in the manner of which they want them done!!! I have worked on many projects, only to find out several years later, that not only were those projects "classified", but.....that you also needed to have a "Top Secret" clearance just to work on them!!! Yet.....there I was.....just your average -- bumpkin -- "doing my thing". And, WHY??? Because some of the projects I ended up being involved with required someone with -- BOTH -- the skills of being a combined Mechanical Designer AND a PCB Designer.....a combined skillset that apparently not too many people have and I do.

So, these defense contractors simply made the decision.....-- IF THEY DON'T TELL ME --.....that what I am working on is classified and that they can pay me in such a manner that ends up being "invisible", then they get their equipment designed by someone with the skillset that they need and nobody is the wiser. But, yeah.....later on, it gets "crusty" with other parts of your life.

Similarly, yet I won't go into the details here as I have already detailed this event in some other thread a year or two ago, is when the NSA literally called me up here-at-home one afternoon!!! YEAH!!!.....that alone sounds unbelievable, right??? The person on the other end of the phone told me that they needed someone with a particular background and skillset and after they did their own search using only God-knows what algorithm or program, the NSA person told me that -- MY NAME -- was at the top of the search-results list!!! REALLY??? At the time of the call, I thought that I was in some type of trouble for something!!!

Long story short.....I drove out to Ft. Meade and worked with one of their engineering teams for 3-days to resolve an issue they were having. As I was leaving the building on the third-day, the guard stationed by the front-door called out to me in a very loud voice..... -- WILLIAMS!!! - Step over here, please!!! As I approached the guard, he extended out his right-hand to shake my hand and said to me, "We thank-you for your service".....while handing over to me an envelope with his left-hand. I accepted and took the envelope and said "Thanks" and I left the building. When I got back into my car, I opened up the envelope and saw that it was filled with -- thousand-dollar bills -- that were so crisp that they almost felt like thin plastic sheets!!! I WAS SHOCKED!!! But, then.....

.....I thought, "OF COURSE"!!! The NSA would only pay me in -- CASH -- so there would be no paper trail and that they could deny that I was even ever there!!! That's just how things go out there in the "Cloak & Dagger Spook World"!!!..... You can either believe it or not, I don't really care!!!.....

And, yet.....the real "FUN" part of my NSA experience was what I had to go through each time I entered the NSA engineering building!!! The short-version of this is.....each morning as I entered the NSA engineering building, I was first greeted by two armed military MP's, each of whom stationed themselves both in front and in back of me. Then, the MP in front of me would bark out an order and -- FOUR -- fully-armed with M16 rifles U.S. Army military soldiers, would come out of a nearby room and they would all station themselves on either side of the two MP's!!! Once the six of them were all in a formation, the lead MP would bark out another order and then the 7 of us would literally "march" down the hallways of the NSA engineering building until we got to the room where the engineering team was located. Upon our arrival, the lead MP would issue a -- HALT!!! -- command and the 2 MP's would take-off, leaving the 4 armed soldiers around me.

Then, 2 of the engineers would open up the double-doors going into their room and the 5 of us would go into their room. Once we were all inside the room, each soldier would go to each corner of the room and then stand at "ATTENTION" all day while I was assisting the NSA engineers with their issue. At the end of each day, it was basically all of the same thing, only in reverse.

In short.....there is far more "secret ****" that goes on within our government than you would ever believe could actually exist!!! I know.....I've been there!!! And.....so has a "Contractor" friend of mine, who had a unique combined expertise in electronic circuit design and software coding. He once told me one of his personal stories of being picked-up at the company he used to work at by a caravan of black SUV's that was protected by a fleet of Washington, DC motorcycle police!!! They drove him down to a place just north of Silver Spring and out into a cornfield!!! In the back of the SUV that he was riding in, was a piece of specialized electronic equipment that he had designed for his company and his job was to install this chassis into the racks of gear owned by the U.S. Government.

My friend had told me.....he had thought that he would be driven to some building down in DC and it would be there that he would be installing this chassis into a rack. But, instead.....he is finding himself in this caravan driving through the middle of a cornfield!!! He said that as they approached the middle of this cornfield, there was a singular very tall tree and a huge clump or mound of bushes that surrounded the tree. He had absolutely no idea of what was going on or of what was about to take place!!!

My friend told me how shocked he was upon their approaching this large clump of vegetation located in the middle of a cornfield when the bushes began to rise into the air and then exposing an entrance way that went to a downward ramp. He said that the entire fleet of SUV's drove down into the "hold in the ground", while the DC motorcycle police stayed above the ground. In other words.....there is an entire -- SECRET -- U.S. Government communications building located underground in the middle of a Maryland cornfield!!!

My friend later told me that he had learned that there are dozens of these facilities located all over the U.S. and their primary purpose is to maintain a working communications system and government in the event of a nuclear strike and/or war. Makes sense to me!!! Your tax-dollars at work!!! But, of course.....I just made all of this up, right???
