Has anyone built the Tape Op EMT Plate Reverb ?
I've "ordered" the metal-frame work from a friend
who likes welding

The question is what other parts I need for it to sound good.

I've found the Rolen Star Transducer but I have to order it from the US, so the shipment will cost me more than the transducer itself...
I think I will try and build a transducer from a speaker instead.

As for pickups I've got some Piezo elements, used for drum-pads.

Any suggestions for parts, tips etc. are very welcome !

.... well, well... I guess nobody around has built it ...
any way the framework, plate and so on is finished,
I'll try an post some pix of it in the weekend.

Does anyone have the old service manual or likewise
for the EMT-140 ?

I've got no intention of trying to make a clone of it... just
a good sounding plate reverb. The easiest way is getting a transducer, but I havent found one at a reasonable price yet.

Have you tried a search in this forum? We have discussed this before..?

I think Dan Alexander has EMT manuals on his webpage.

IIRC, Monacor has a surface-mount speaker that looks right for an exiter

Thank's everybody !
... and yes I have browsed and downloaded all the
stuff mentioned above.

It's just that I'd like to take a look at the manual for some ideas of how to build a driver, pickups etc.... and of course out of curiosity

I think Avatar has what I need ... you got a PM.

I don't think the manual will help you there.

hi Magnus

My EMT was without a driver. I cut to the chase and got one from Jim Cunningham .It seems to work well. Dale Manquen was kind enough to carefuly mount it for me. I was happy with that decision because it allowed me to concentrate on getting the driver and pick-up amps where I was Happy.

My pick-ups use the Martin sound electronics but I have modded them to use the opa 275 chip . A little more modern sound compared to the tube playback amps.

What amps are you using?

Lance

Plate reverb built and tested. Sounds great  better than I thought it would.
Used an old speaker and a wooden stick for driver.
Driver-amp is a Neumann mono speaker amp around 4 Watts.
Simple RF Low-cut filter at around 700 Hz for driver.
New York Dave:s JFET amp + Bo Hanse'ns buffer for pickups.

Used simple steel hooks that just won't break no matter how hard you tension them.... :thumb:

I'll be back with pix and some sound samples.

Ok !

Here are some pictures of it.... but BEWARE, it's the worst kind of p*rn  with the guts spread all over. It's still under construction, so I'm a bit embarrased

.. now you're warned, have a look :green:

I'll make some soundsamples once I'm finished tweaking it. But as I said before... it sounds really good. I've EQ:ed the pickups with Gyraf:s Calrec, wich works really well, but feels like a little overkill
 Crazy! Cool!

I have an old emt schematic/manual book.. but in german... but iam willing to help of course

here are some scans from the manual:

Thank's ! I'm very interrested in the manual, especially the "mechanics" I don't think it's worth it, trying to clone the amps.... but I'm thinking of building two slowblows as line-amps for pickups....

I designed a JFET amp? :?
dunno if you designed it but I found this:

...as I had a bunch of J201:s lying around I nicked it...
works just fine :thumb:

Oh, that thing. Yes, I guess you could say that's "mine", but it was just some lunchtime messing-around on the breadboard. I wouldn't consider it a completed design as such, more of a circuit fragment. But if it's working for you, great! :thumb:

Well, in this case it does just what I need.. around 20 dB of gain... and as I said I had the JFET:s and all the other stuff so I just put it together.
Thank's  anyway, well worth a :sam:
