Greetings again,

As far as I understand right now, actual attack and release times are depending on the amount that the signal is above the threshold, i.e. with a linear attack slope it would take longer to reach the max compression if the input signal is larger.

So what does it mean when they say X ms attack time? I am thinking that must refer to a certain db value that the input signal is above the threshold? Does anyone know?

Thanks,

Hi

This is a topic already discussed around, IIRC there is no -definitive- answer about timing claim or label on a compressor
Basicaly timing have nothing to do with threshold or ratio, it's a time constant usually defined by RC network.
Thresold is the point you decide to charge/discharge the time constant network, and ratio is the amount of this stocked energy you decide to use to modify your output, Vin/Vout
Probably most define time directly with -physics- formula of a RC network:
-tau, which is the time for about 63% charge.
-but you can also define -time response- in physic, which is 3tau, 95%
-or 5tau 99%...

Cheers
