Audio Technica transformers

Of the AT mics that have transformer outputs, are the trafos generally considered to be a weak link, or are AT trafos considered to be pretty decent?

Would properly executed transformerless-out mods be worth doing?

I have a few different AT mics. Of the ones I own, the 4060 and 4047 have transformers. They do not add much color if any.
