I just got 2 power transformers from Edcor and I am surprised to find that the heater windings on both measure 7.6VAC and not 6.3VAC.
How bad is this - do I need to look into this or is this acceptable??

it certainly sounds like your transformer is not up to spec then.

On the other hand, you could now have DC heaters. That winding can (just about) handle it.

Also, what is your line voltage?

My house runs a little on the high side (119.5VAC), so my heater voltages run a bit high as well.

Is it ok to pad down the voltage with a couple of resistors??

Sure. A couple of 5 Watts.

Do you have all other secondaries connected and drawing the designed current as well?
That does affect the heater voltage too.

What is the total VA-rating of the trannie? If it is very small, the losses are substantial and secondary use makes a big difference. If it is big, no more than 10% "regulation" should be expected between unloaded and loaded run.

Contact the factory any way. I would not accept that kind of deviation, but on the other hand we are not dealing with mass production and can solve the issue with resistors.

you could rectify  and regulate it, or just use resistors

add a power lamp that drags 300 ma, and see if that helps.
