Indeed. Particularly with the type of socket shown here. I find the CNC-turned DIP sockets to be far more reliable. The type shown here loses tension over the years (heating up / cooling down, i.e. 'thermal cycling' will take the tension out of the springs). I've opened up older gear with these sockets and seen ICs literally fall straight out...
