Punk rock isn't my usual genre (at age 67 I should be too Olde for this sh!t!  lol) but these guys have made some great records over the years.  A new one I heard on the rock FM radio recently is charting on Billboard, with a very "topical"  video:

I love The Offspring, every time I listen to them I remember my teens, I have mixed feelings with that band because I like their songs a lot but they make me feel nostalgic, the first time I listened to them I was around 10 or 11 when their first album came out and I loved the song "Come out and play", I was learning guitar back then and the older kids (who where like 13 or 14) showed me a lot about music included the Offspring,  then I was in Highschool when the songs "The Kids arent allright" and  "I want you bad" came out.

Then I went to college and The Offspring's songs were commonly played in college parties, the whole "Happy punk" thing was big back then, The Offspring, Sum41, Blink182, FalloutBoy, Lit, Green Day etc...  I was also into Nu-Metal.

"The Kids Aren't Allright" is probably the most iconic song of my youth, everytime they play that song in the radio they refer to it as "Classic Rock", sh*t.... the late 90s early 00s were great!

Then came Emo and I really didn't like it, I like some of My Chemical Romance songs, but thats mostly it... I switched to Metal around that time, Lamb of God, Unearth, etc...

Do kids these days still listen to something like punk or rock? I know there are some bands out there but is there some mainstream rock movement right now that I don't know of?

What are kids listening to? besides WAP and that guy who lap-dances Satan in hell?

My best friend (and now renting/rooming in the basement) is age 37.  We are a generation apart, but we both like rock from different generations.

Metallica is his fave and I like many of their songs.  We both agree on Paul Macartney, Beatles, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, ACDC, etc but Chad isn't a fan of my 60's R&B music (Stax, Motown, etc).

We both agree that sh!t on radio/billboard these days kinda sucks.  Chad sez "I must be getting old" while I just smile and nod in agreement.

Well, I'll be 37 in July so I can relate. I also love the music of your generation Bri, and the music of my generation which is the 90s and 00s. Don't get me wrong, I must confess that I even like some of the Pop from the 2008-2015 era like Katy Perry and Lady Gaga who had some really great songs, but today, its all BS, the only one I kinda like is Billie Eilish, but thats it.

The thing I have never understood is Hip-Hop/rap, it is a cultural thing I guess.... But I do like RnB, I love Motown, Stax. The Temptations are AMAZING. One of my favorite bands is Grand Funk Railroad.

However, when it comes to modern mainstream rock, I've heard nothing, zero, zilch, nada. Mainstream rock is dead.

Have you heard Primus, Bri? the lyrics are ridiculous, but the bass is out of this world, I think you'll like it.
