Hi,

I need to replace the internal PSU of my 33609 type compressor (83046).
I don't have time to build one myself and would rather buy a great 24V PSU I could install in the box.

Do you guys know of a great PSU for my needs?

Thanks!
G

Depends on what kind of PSU that you want. Linear or SMPS. Since I don't use linear anymore, my recommendation for SMPS is Mean Well EPS-XXX-24 or RPS-XXX-24 where XXX is the wattage: 15, 25, 35, 45, 65, 120 but unfortunately, they're hard to get these days. Aside from MW, I also use Delta Electronics SMPS.

Thanks for the recommendations!

Had great experiences with Mean Well products in the past but it's been a few years and I feel pretty out of touch with brands and references. SMPS would be perfectly fine I believe! I'll check the references you mentioned!

Regarding wattage, what do you think would be optimal for a 33609 compressor?

RFS series I have not used personally, but the EPS series (I think it's the same, RFS is just certified for medical use) I have. I suppose if you take out the main power transformer, you can make space in the enclosure for the Mean Well?

33609 internal power supply board also contain a couple of relays switching circuit for the audio signal. Make sure you ONLY remove the power supply components (see page 23)

EDIT: oops sorry, I thought you're replacing the internal power supply of a real Neve 33609 unit 🤦‍♂️

It is a 83046 unit that was fitted with a custom power supply 30 years ago and that has seen better days.. Basically a console version of the original 33609 that used to get it's power from the desk.

I think I have all the room I need to fit a Mean Well! Not sure about which wattage to choose.

If that's a 7824 regulator in a TO-3 can, then the current draw must be less than 1A.
Go with EPS-25-24 / RFS-25-24.
