Unless you get a trailer, your going to be cramped in any van with that many people + gear. Think extra insurance + paperwork + place to park the trailer. I would also be worried about some douche bag breaking into the trailer or flat out stealing the whole thing (along with all the gear)

The reason why I say this is because last year I took a 12 passenger van from LA to Portland, OR with 10 people + gear and it almost made me go insane. So cramped, dudes falling asleep all over one another and drooling. It was fun, but not for 20+ hours.

How far are you planing on going?

Busses are way cooler than any van in my opinion, especially if your not married. You can build out lockers into the busses walls, and floor for extra storage and security.

It would probably be cheaper to pimp out your bus with an AC, new exhaust, some couches bolted to the floor, exc than to buy a new-ish van.

Sonicmook,
Check out the first post. A trailor is part of the plan. I've had the bus for a year now. The bus is a drag. Can't hear anything but the engine roaring. Can't talk to anyone while you're driving without screaming. The seats are all uncomfortable. Yes, I could pimp out the bus-it was my original plan, but I don't feel like working that hard. The bus IS for sale though, if you're interested. ;-) Only 120,000 miles on it...

I want to find out what is more dependable:
Chevy express extended or Ford E-Series extended.

Trailers are easily stolen.

Can you imagine the thief's disappointment when he pops the lock and discovers a trailer full of DIY marimbas and percussion instruments? :thumb:

I can see it now-some crackhead trying to run down the street dragging the 400 lb bass marimba.

We've had great service from our Chevy 3500. It has given us 100k miles in the past two years and has been great.
A quiet, somewhat comfortable ride (as much as a van can be) pulling a twelve foot trailer gives us what we need.
We're getting about 11 MPG, but that's better than the 5 MPG in a diesel Prevost (although the Prevost is very nice  ).
