I posted this over at TapeOp but you guys may have a better understanding...
What's the deal with the AKG 451 and 452? They look the same and people usually speak of them as they were the same mic. Where I work we have about a dozen 452s both silver and black, with the knuckle joints. I hear people love the 451s, but I'm not really in to them and usually only use them when mic placement is difficult and the knuckle saves the day (closed lid piano, hi hat, cable hung, etc) that's why I thought it was funny that AKG reissued the 451 without the knuckle capabilities. Do the 451s sound different than the 452s? If not what's the big deal and what's the difference?
