Hi,

i need a multimeter to adjust a vu meter,

i need 0db sine sent to the unit - ac 0.775 volts, so the multimeter needs to be able to mesure the 1k sine wave so i can accurately adjust the vu meter.

£/20/30/40 is the maximum i can afford,

i can see the vc97eBay item number:371137082588

or a uni-t alternative?

i saw a hairball audio fet video where the guy uses a uni-t 60f ?

theres other models of the uni-t prehaps newer any help finding a good one for general purpose stuff and measuring the above.

any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

For meter calibration purposes, you can use 100 or 200Hz - and any cheap dvm does this fine (unless it's the very-very cheap version with 200V minimum range on AC)

The problem with 'cheap' dmm's will be reading confidence.
Can you really be confident that what is displayed is really what is present? Not unless you can find a mate with a better meter and make a few spot comparisons for volts, current and resistance measurements. Then you will know how accurate your reading really is.
Most are reasonable these days, but there have been some real shockers in the past.
Dave Jones has a few videos on dmm's and the things to look out for, as well as comparing several brands on his eevblog channel.

Many cheapo (and some expensive) multimeters (both analogue & digital) are meant for 50 - 60 Hz only on their AC ranges.

They may give seriously wonky results by 1kHz.

When you get your multimeter, measure its Frequency Response on its AC ranges .. especially the lowest voltage range that you will probably use most often.
