Samuel - Being the DOA **** that I am, where can someone obtain one or two pieces of the Boulder 993 discrete gain block? I've been to their website and it stinks. Does anyone sell those little piglets? DW.

I'm sure they would be happy to sell you some, provided they are inside their >30k$ phono preamp  ;D

Indeed it is unlikely to find them without some surround circuitry... BTW, in the pic I posted above it looks to me as if the PCB material where some RF-grade stuff, right?

Could be, but it may just be the gold-plating---the region unplated looks like it could be conventional glass-epoxy.

Madrigal/Mark Levinson has touted one of the low-loss materials.  Since Boulder seems to pursue a cost-no-object approach I am surprised they haven't followed suit.

I think the Boulder preamp could be a good deal better btw, depsite it already getting a singular "A+" rating from Stereophile.  The S/N specs are not especially impressive, although as usual better than the mostly surface-noise-dominated medium needs.
