Hi Folks,
i d like to realize a sort of dbx 165A....
just simulated RMS Detector combined with THAT2180 for vca.
Followed design note00 by THATcorp, but replaced the detector 2252 with a sort of dbx 207/208, a useful design found into the forum.....
Also added a simple timing net for controls.
Hope that implementing the Stop Level circuit part as per dbx165A , i will get something close to the original device
Thanks for your attention
Best

this one is Symetrix 501, and looks like they re using a similar detector, but not so expert to judge

trying to simplify....
my block diagram idea
still confused about limiter stop level part
i left out the automode and master/slave buffer for the moment
the simple timing net i m running is working on simulation, but still to calculate according to original 165A
Anyone interested on this device?
Thanks for your attention
best

finally.... these are my progress
thanks to Abbey s support i was able to understand how to better drive 2180 vca
maybe the meter driver should be reversed, i ll see
basically this design is a vca based comp, soon i will add the limiter part , to have same features like dbx165A
i m also having the strange idea to implement the limiter part and the clipper on Gssl compressor, since a control port on THAT-vca is not in use, but it s another story
thanks for attention
best

also the limiter part looks working
can C9 node be used for stereo Link, or is better to pick the tracking reference from CV?
165A is using a dedicated buffer and detector for linking channels, master-slave mode...

Uploading higher resolution images of the schematics might increase the chance of people looking at them. :) I can hardly discern anything there. 🔎

ups, sorry it s just the screenshot
this the max i can on this pc

I can send you or attach the asc file....
I have a basic and limited experience, so every suggestion is always well accepted

thanks to useful suggestion i followed dn116 by THATcorp....
better responce, and also setted the gain staging to exploit its max headroom, i believe!
still working on limiter part

maybe the limiter part is now working.... followed THAT dn101 for peak detection....
the better response i had
red and blu 2 x CV, EC+ and EC-

this time used Auto detection on limiter part, dn114... seems to have no distortion at low freq
