I had some of the Atlas ones with the little push-in tab years ago, but they were too light-weight and I stopped using them for fear of damaging microphones.

I see these new quick-connects the other day that use hose-connections now and look very solid, but are also really expensive for a whole mic collection.

It got me thinking the other day when I saw garden-hose and pressure-washer quick-connects at Home Depot costing next to nothing.

They seem to be the same mechanisms, just different pipe-size thread-size?

I've seen similar fittings used in pneumatics (impact guns and such).
I'm trying to get my head around it!

I've never used a tap & die, but I'm sure you can reduce but not augment.

I've been trying to figure out how it works...there is both hose-size and thread-size.

So far I think I see that mic stands are 5/8" with 27-TPI?

I'm not sure how that works with tubes connecting, though.
