I've had a bit more of a read ... cool stuff
... one of these days, if you have time, we should talk.
Some of my favorite articles are on my page at:

Let me know when you want to connect up.

I've enjoyed many of your articles, Jack.
Thanks, mnats!

Thanks Jack,

I'm having a read now.
The more I read the more I like. Both style and info. I'm sure, if I try hard, I can find something we disagree on and it should make for a great discussion.

Once the Olympics are past and I have some spare time to devote to my new venture I'm sure you will hear from me.
This is where I get to vent!
:green:
love it
I am definitely going to have one of these pages at the new place as I too, seem to be venting of late.

I'm going to build the Jensen version and I'm wondering what type of capaciter to use. The place I was ordering from had three types in this size so I just ordered all three for under a buck. What cap should I use or does it really matter?
They had:

Dipped Tantalum Capacitors (35V) - .1 µF, Dipped Tantalum Capacitor (35V)

Polyester Capacitors - .1 µF, Mylar 100 Volt ±10% Polyester Capacitor

General Purpose Ceramic Capacitors - .1 uF; DIAM: 5 mm; 50 Volt

Also, they did not have a 20K POT so I ordered a 25K POT. This would not be a problem for the impedence POT would it.

If you're ordering the iron from Jensen, they have a little kit of DI parts (the caps and resistors only, I think) for like $5. I don't know what types are specified, though.

isn't your schematic backwards ??

shouldn't the 10k side be the output to the guitar amp ?

As I understood it his intention was to make the source-impedance ('@ sec') low and then let the source imped. as seen by the gtr-amp completely be determined by the imped-pot.

Peter

Peter is correct. Besides, if you turned the transformer around the other way, you'd be stepping UP the signal going to the guitar amp by 18dB, which would overload the livin' shit out of it.

I have a pic that some may find interesting...
Could anybody host it for me?

bunbury

edit:
Or not...Here it is! I may have a higher res 1 somewhere...

mmm
interesting
Altran Transformers
from Ed's transformers page we find

http://www.altrancorp.com/

trouble is, is that they don't have an online catalog.

I built mine with an 0-10 as specified in the patent, Ive regularly gotten 0-10's on ebay for $10. cheaper than an altran woudl be, I would guess. Sounds ok.

...which I drew before I even saw the Jensen schematic. But it's no surprise that they're similar, since it's a simple problem with a fairly obvious solution

For the transformer, you can use an Edcor WSM10k/150 if you're on a budget.

Funny, the guy who makes the commercial "ReA.." devices usually comes out of the woodwork right about now, guns blazing... Sometimes I think he sits at his PC and plugs the word "ReA..." into Google all day.

Guns blazing alright... Granted, I gotta learn to not post messages late at night after a belly-full of beer but man...

Scroll down half way...

don't be sorry

many of us have had this battle with John.

yes he did pay the money to get the patent.
I don't blame or hate John ... but the US Patent office for granting a patent for something so simple and obvious

they argue about 1993 or 1995

shit this was obvious to anyone in there first year of dabbling with electronics and musical instuments

I did this in the early 80's and our grandfathers did it when the first recording and overdubs could be made on the early multitrackers
I'm sure people had there impedance converters back in the 60's
( Paul and Dave were just young fellows back then )

It's not rocket science .... excuse me ... rocket science was at it's greatest in the 60's
I completely sure the guys new about this stuff back then.

and !!

variable gain tube circuits ... ... don't get me started

let it go
move along
nothing to see here

:thumb:

Yeah... Already moved on. I just had to say something after I put all the pieces together. I honestly wouldn't have cared at all if I didn't see all the retaliatory (spelling) responses and lawsuits he started when others tried making similar devices.

Anyhoo... I made my own and it sounds killer. Long live DIY.

The link to your drawing isn't working. Can you re-post or PM me with it?
