Has anyone found the original  EMI TG mic preamp schematic?

What could be the idea behind the transistor in the 'voltage dropper' section of GroupDIY TG2.png?

Shunt regulation has its merits, like heating the mixer for cold mornings...

I love LTspice. It is free, runs spice models from just about anywhere and is easy to work with. However, you need a CP to run it on and I don't always have one to hand.

Maybe, but it was in the same post as "I just tried it on PartSim the online simulator. " It seemed to indicate that PartSim had an edge there. Obviously, an online sim also needs a PC.
Well, probably a misunderstanding due to edit collision.

I think I meant PC ( meaning one that can execute LTspice). An on line simulator can be any browser so it could run on a Chrome book, or tablet for example which cannot execute LTspice.
