Hi guys.
Was wondering if i can hook up a line in transformer in front an EQ with a 600 Impedance??
A simple 10K:600R just so this eq would work at line levels.
Please let us know!

Thanks.

If the EQ really expects a driving source of 600 ohms or less then a 10K:600 input transformer will work fine but you will lose 12dB of signal level. Most semiconductor gear these days has a very low output impedance and will happily drive a 600 ohm load. A lot of tube gear will drive 600 ohms but some won't (my poor man's tube gain make up stage for one).

Some passive EQ actually presents a near 600 ohm load to the source (most Pultec EQ for instance) and expects a driving source impedance of 600 ohms or less else the Q (sharpness) of its EQ response suffers, so it does need a source capable of driving 600 ohms.

Bottom line is it depends on what the EQ really wants.

Cheers

Ian

The EQ sounds fine if i hook up a mic preamp into the EQ...but wont like if i hook it up to my 002 ouputs.
So id like to drive the eq by any 10K line signal... just like any other modern eq.
Thanks.
