I'm new here, so hello.
This forum is a gold mine, but I can not find answers to my questions.

I'm looking to make a fader rack to put before my summing mixer.
My connectors are balanced.

If I am not mistaken it is impossible for liabilities faders to be symmetrical?

I do not understand how to connect a balanced cable on an active fader (for example).

Do you have a drawing or something that might help me?

I thanked you

You can use a stereo fader for attenuating balanced signal. One fader section for the non-inverting (+) and another for the inverting signal (-). In case of active balanced output, the fader resistance or tracking tolerance can slightly affect the CMRR, but in practice it works fine. If the output feeding the fader is transformer balanced, the fader imperfections don't affect the CMRR.

Thank you for your reply.

The connection order is as follows:

Converter => Patch (hardware integration) => Fader => Summing box.

It is given that the converter output (aurora lynx) is 100ohms balanced and 50Ohms unbalanced.

The entrance to the summing box (Phoenix nicerizer junior) is 10kohms(based internet).

Share these values a technician told me that I had to use a potentiometer between 1k and 2k.

The problem is I can not find a fader in its values, and not being experienced in this area I do not know many brand that manufactures potentiometer (even rotating) quality.

All knobs that I find it a tolerance of 20%, this could creates big problem symmetric use ...

- Do I have to use potentiometers between 1k and 2k?

- How rotary potentiometer brand could I use (I'm looking for the good qualities)?

Thanking you

A standard 10kohm fader works fine. The 1kohm suggested probably causes more problems in form of increased distortion. Due to the "logarithmic" law, the output resistance of the fader is much lower than than the nominal value. (Even in stereo applications the tracking error due to loading and resistance tolerance can usually be compensated by padding.)

Why the symmetry is so important? Most consoles use unbalanced summing. Even if the the fader reduces the symmetry a little, the situation is still much better than a fully unbalanced connection. Keep the cables short and equipment connected to the same AC outlet.

- Simply because all my machines are symmetrical, but I can unbalanced the input faders to summing box ( audio Phoenix said that even unbalanced entry will not cause loss)

So I do not understand your words , it is better to have symmetrical or asymmetrical fader ?

- So I was misinformed , I will test with faders 10k liabilities.

Thank you a lot.

( Penny and Giles faders are active and they are only found on the maché this opportunity , do you know the feeling of good quality faders that are passive ? ALPS are they still good product?)

I've been using some Alps K faders for a project, the feel and quality seem to be nice. I'm pretty sure Audio Maintenace carries stereo as well as mono in the Alps K line, so worth a look. From my understanding, you would be looking at stereo (i.e. 2 potentiometers controlled by one control, one for +, one for -) faders.

I have a P&G stereo fader for my master bus, and the feel and quality are outstanding. However, a set of those for a Nicerizer jr (16 input, correct?) would be a significant investment.

Yes indeed it has 16 entries.

I'll do a test with a low-end fader, if it is successful, I put 8 fader penny and gils on the most important tracks, and alps on the other 8 .

Thank you very much for your answers, I would keep you informed if it works.

Hello, I have make the test with one give 10k in my patchbay, it works!

I am going the manufacturing of the system stand.

Thank you!
