A good number of the vintage amps I work on have their foil caps carefully mounted about 5mm above the PCB with little insulating sleeves.
Is this a way to control any stray capacitances running around? Or is there some other good reason to do this?
It seems a lot of effort/money if you're hand assembling a thousand or more amps...
