Federal law says you can repair your own things, and manufacturers cannot force you to use their own repair services.

Seems kind of strange to me or else I just don't get it.
If it is under warranty why would someone want to repair it themselves?
i.e. if you repair it yourself, should you get a warranty payment from the company?
What if someone opens up it up and botches it up? Does the warranty still apply?

Imagine you built a piece of audio gear and wanted to sell it with a 1 year warranty. Wouldn't you find it strange for someone to have opened it up and then sent it back for warranty?

This seems plain stupid to me. How else is a company to guard against anyone tinkering with the insides, breaking it and then sending it back for a free in warranty repair? Consumer rights gone mad.

Cheers

interesting takes......been this way since 1975, this is rare enforcement.....

I can see both sides.  For some things it's just easier / faster to fix it yourself,  which shouldn't negate future warranty service for other issues down the road.
