I haven't dug into the reason yet, but I got an SA-38 meter next to an SA-38A meter and noticed the gain reduction scale changed.  I don't recall a circuit change, so it's possible they modified the definition of the measurement method.

Hi Doug.  Yeah... I feel fortunate to have it.  It was part of an AM station purchase along with the Gates 250 watt transmitter, modulation monitor and a Sta-Level.
