Hi Guys,
I have some problem with some Genelec Volume remote control units,
the volume varies randomly without any touch
i opened the unit and i verified the 4 pin 10k ohm potentiometer mounted on the pcb
The cause it is the potentiometer
I try to search the replacement part on the main electronics suppliers (farnell ,RS ,etc etc) but without success
In attached picture
Anyone can help me ?
let me know
Thank you in advance

Thats unfortunate... I asked some advice on old product (s30) and they replied fast if I remember. This was maybe 6 years ago. It is Finnish company so I contacted to the headquarters directly :) They didn't have spares (obsolete transistors) but were helpfull.

They seem to have updated website, here is a contact form if you don't get reply from the local distributor: http://www.genelec.com/service-enquiry-form

Lets see if this forum beats the company with speed and knowledge ;)

Those pots and how they mount are doomed to fail.  It is plastic melt-riveted to metal and two of your rivets are gone so the body is loose and the wiper is jumping the track.  They get pushed-down and the rivets break.

Genelec is your best source for the part if you cannot get a number off of it.  You have to try dropping some of a part number to get a hit sometimes.  I look at "images" to hone-in to a mystery part.  Its on a ribbon, so maybe there is a way to adapt a better pot to the circuit.  Usually they are all PCB soldered and covered by the panel face so there is no room to do it.

The quick fix I do for these is to use two tie-wraps around the body to hold the pot mechanically solid.  If they do not make contact with the plastic body underneath I add a piece of the wrap as a shim.  I put these on new replacements to give a longer life as well.
Mike
