In an unlikely place, I have found something I believe I can use as an element for a LDC. (I'll divulge my discovery after I attempt it. It's kinda wild... one of those epiphanies you get after staring at something for a moment...)
It's a 1-3/8", gold diaphragm. I need a good, basic, circuit for attempting this. Is there such a thing?

I can second the KM84 style circuit. Besides sounding clear it allows for decent capsule polarization voltage (mid 40s) without the need for onboard DC/DC converter. A real microphone output transformer is a must though.
As for opamps, even single amplifier units tend to draw enough current to drop available voltage into the low 30V range.
The TL071 has lower draw than any fancy opamp, but it is not as "sexy" as other fancy opamps or discrete circuits.
