If you haven't added one , a 1/4" unbalenced out is a nice option
i used mine like this for years , driving a hundred feet on classical
stages at times with no problems .
When i made a quad i added a couple of jensen outputs to two
channels and they indeed added a little thickness but for purity
i'd go with the unbal outs
Great job! I think we all want to know if by Peak you mean the LED is a Peak LED rather than an "ON" one. Is it? Doesn't the original PS have an output to drive peak led?
the Dan power supply as in the gerbers does have a comparitor
[ sense both pos & neg waveform ] as a peak l.e.d. driver
works well , starts to glow slightly as you approch the level
I.C. driven
Which output xfmrs did you use ? are those the smaller steel
" api " type ? regardless you should notice a big difference
also running an unbal out [ can use also as a non -latency out
for computor recording ]
there's a real need for a peak led meter board. Something showing -6db, -3db,0db and +3db. Maybe even leave out -6db. There must be something around already.
So here's a question Greg. I think its still on subject. I'm curious as to why the circuit is in the power supply and not monitoring the audio signal itself?
The circuit is sensing current draw? Is it that linear that you can tell when a peak is reached? I don't see how it can do this without actually directly monitoring audio?
Just very curious about this.
And yes 1 led is enogh but its nice to see when you get close as well. On my board my peak led lights up with increasing intensity as it approaches 0db and full on when past it. You get a real "feel" for the signal this way.
Itr may have been an " addition " that as you can see there is no room
on the preboard , so restate the main reason , otherwise the power
connector has an audio line coming off of the pre to feed the comparitor
nothing to do with the psu .
Could drive a meter seperately if you needed but is the beauty of the
pre set the gain and enjoy , effortless
Thanks for sharing!
I didn't understand the led-driver part of this build

but now things are clearer to me
