Despite having the resistors placed correctly, using the color bands and double checking with DMM(during build), I'm getting a bunch that seem to have lowered in value. I've never had this happen, before, and I'm pretty stumped. After taking the DMM to the board, there are a bunch of resistors(primarily in the sidechain and VCA sections) that are nowhere near their color code values. For instance, two of the three 1k resistors(the ones on either end of the THAT chips) are reading at 756r.
I've built a number of kits and stuff, and never had the values of resistor altered by me overheating them, during soldering, so I have a hard time believing that I just blew a bunch of resistors. Also, to test my theory, I swapped those 4 resistors with new 1k resistors, but they are also now reading 756r, after only being powered up for a few minutes. None of the resistors look scorched or burned, but many have dropped to less than half their printed value(1meg to 195k
). I'm pretty perplexed, as the test points have always shown the proper voltages, so it doesn't seem that they should have overheated.
Any ideas what could cause this?
Thanks, folks. I'm really itching to get the Cavendish boards, too, but I need to get the main unit running good, before I get to hotrod.
