Have a look at http://www.pacinfo.com/~sholst/ and take the 'shop tour' to see things of beauty take shape.

Truly stunning craftsmanship.

very nice. archtops are extremely hard to build.

im working on a PRS clone right now. check it out here:

that ebony looks so red it looks like cocobolo. I'm building an archtop out of mahogony and cocobolo sides. It's kind of a Fender Starcaster/Trey Anastasio rip off.

A few years ago my wife bought me a nice gift.

The 5 tape Archtop Guitar design and construction set by Robert Benedetto.

Oooooh. I'm a big Starcaster fan. I used to have two, but now am down to one. Very interesteing sounding guitars, a real sleeper IMHO. No other guitar I have played has quite the same midrange that the Starcaster has. Was Trey's guitar deliberately patterned off the Starcaster? I've noticed the similarities.

Will you be using Fender humbuckers in yours by any chance? In my opinion, they work much better in the Starcasters than in the Teles. They are wierd pickups (magnetic CuNiFe pole pieces) in a wierd guitar. Synergy!

Chris

Thanks! I think all the time and grief I saved with my DIY projects by being here and reading all the great posts on this forum entitles everyone here to a cool axe  I powered up my last project (pair of API 312s) for the first time with no bugs to work out. Couldn't believe it. I think I may be getting the hang of this stuff.

Cool stuff!

I made a guitar a few years ago. Here it is:

You may hear it on the sound files at:

Hey ASM, I'm building another guitar now, using the same Bolivian Rosewood as pictured on your link. I'm only using that wood for the core, though. The body will be semihollow mahogany built around the Bolivian Rosewood core. The neck is Indian rosewood with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. I'll post some pics as the project advances. Your guitar looks like it's coming along nicely!

I'm not sure. It was built by Paul Languedoc. It's a full hollow body. I believe the Starcaster is a semi-hollow body, right? Mine will be fully hollow body. I ended up getting a ES335 a year ago, and my guitar project got put on the back burner because of it. I want to do it soon though, I've already got the top and back carved and the "f" holes in...

Planning on using some waarm sounding "jazzy" pups, probably some of the '57 humbucker ones.

The best warm, jazzy PAF type pickups I've ever heard were the Duncan Seth Lover model. These things sound great and have a lot of "air" in the sound that works well with hollow instruments.

I've never built one from raw wood before, but I've bought parts, finished and assembled a couple:

I no longer have the Strat. The Tele's 4-sale, btw.
