can anyone help me with what i'm meant to search for to find these ribbon cable connectors? the BOM says they're IDC16 8x2, but will all box connectors come with the 'lid' part and allow ribbon cable to continue on both sides if that makes any sense? sorry if this is a stupid question!

cheers

IDC = insulation displacement connector
16 pins
arrayed in two rows of 8

Pretty much all IDC connectors I've seen are pass through

https://www.digikey.com/products/en/connectors-interconnects/rectangular-connectors-board-in-direct-wire-to-board/317?k=idc&k=ribbon+cable&k=&pkeyword=idc&sv=0&pv88=103710&sf=0&FV=-8%7C317&quantity=&ColumnSort=0&page=1&pageSize=25

check the data sheets to see what looks right.

I strongly recommend you buy the specific tool for assembling IDC connectors

It's really worth it! I ruined too many connectors trying to do without...
