Hi Guys!

SO I just got a Sony APR 5000. Its my first tape machine and I had it working just fine yesterday. Today it is stuck in stop mode. pressing play, FF or REW doesn't do anything. Only pressing Stop. which just re tensions the reels. Shuttling doesn't work either. What did I do? This is my first machine so I'm sure its something simple that all of y'all are going to laugh at me for haha, or at least I hope...

Also If any one happens to have a manual... I have looked everywhere, even on the yahoo group.

Thanks!

Adam

well I dont know what combination of buttons I pressed but I got it working again! may have been that I re-seated the cards... oh well time to dump some masters to tape.  8)

not specific to that machine but I had a client who called me up because his otari wasn't working right, turns out that he had the machine set to work from the remote and doing so  disabled the local transport controls. Not sure if your sony does the same thing. It's been so long since I used an apr

no, I had it on local control. Not sure what It was exactly. wish I knew so I could fix it fast if It happens again.

have you watched the self test sequence on power up? The machine goes through three tests and reports pass or fail as it goes through them. On that power up that you had trouble with perhaps it failed a self test?

Also, the APR series is micro processor controlled, and it controls everything from transport to calibration. The program to do all that is stored on a series of EPROMS. They are beyond their service life, period. When they fail, and they will, the machine is worthless. But, there is hope. If you machine is passing the three self tests, then it is imperative to get those EPROMS copied sooner rather than later. Investigate getting that done post haste, or there will be tears before bed time one of these days.

Are you positive you had the tape thread correctly? :)
Very common mistake is threading the tape on the wrong side of the sensor.

It was actually doing it without tape on the machine as well.
