Hey guys,

I've purchased an MPC 60 with 115V power supply but I'm from Australia with 230V power.

I've had some issues in the past with noise using step-down transformers so I'm wondering what the cons would be of just putting a 230V - 115V + 115V toroidal in between the power cable and the MPC's transformer. There seems to be plenty of room for one inside. Is there anything else magical that these step-down transformers are doing that makes it necessary or can I ditch it for a toroidal?

Looking at this one in particular:

From memory I think I read somewhere that the MPC 60 will draw 40W.

Thanks a bunch guys :)

Sometimes i had too the noise problems with step down (even with the really good one) and the best solution always was exchange internal transformer for 230V toroid. If you are sure, that there's no internal voltage switch, maybe exchanging internal transformer would be better choice?  Judging from the mpc (inside) pictures from the net, there's a room even for bigger toroid.

That can't be done in this case unfortunately because there are multiple voltages coming out of the US voltage power transformer. I've checked the service manual and it does mention that some models have an internal voltage switch but those models also have a kettle cord socket whereas mine has a US plug cord coming out and no socket :-(.

Can anyone else chime in regarding adding a 230 --> 115 toroidal between the wall socket and the MPC's internal power transformer?

Guess what is in a step-down transformer? A 240V to 115V transformer, usually E-core laminates, hence the noise problem. If you can find a suitable 240-115V toroid then it will work fine. Alternatively you could see if the OEM can supply you with their transformer with the dual primary windings as a spare part, and wire it for 240V use.
