Help with Valve Wizard Cab Sim

I'm building Merlin's Cab Sim and just noticed on the schem two 1n1448 diodes.

Their purpose is to add some distortion emulating the speaker break up..... is it ok to sub these with 4148s?

It would not surprise me if this were not simply a typo on Merlin's part. Easier to tell if you post the schematic.
