Hi all

I have recently bought a OP-1 synth and have managed to get it in sync with my iPad. For that i have to use both teh audio output (mini-jack) and the mni usb output. This creates a terrible mount of hum, noise and other drama in the soundcard my OP-1 is connected to (iConnectaudio4+).
People say this problem can be sold with a ground loop isolator.

These can be boudgt almost for free online (http://www.juno.co.uk/products/av-link-3-5mm-jack-ground-loop/591911-01/)

But my guess is that is can easliy be build, probably even with better quality... Any of you have an opinion on this, or able to help me build  / design it?

Cheers

Erik

A 1:1 audio transformer will do the same.
(In fact: a ground loop isolator is nothing more than an audio transformer...)
By the way: don't expect the highest quality from a 4.43 Euro ground loop isolator!
Good transformers are expensive.

Thanks Ruud

I will have to decide if I am going to keep the OP-1 or that I am going to sync something else to the iPad..
If I decide to keep the iPad, then I will get a good transformer and build something nice!

Hi Erik,

You can start with a low buget ground loop isolator and see how it works.

I build it my self in Radio-Kootwijk to connect a PC to 2 trancievers ;
1:1 transformers with a potmeter  ( to control the level );  the line-out to the mic-in and the loudspeaker-out to the line-in.

Just start experimenting...

It's a transformer. Really two transformers.

The Radio Shack 18 buck equivalent was very good for the purpose. I have often used it for program audio.

5 bucks is probably more like what it costs to make.

I do NOT see why you would want to wind your own.

Even if you got a $2 modem transformer, by the time you put plugs on it you haven't saved much.

thank you all for the useful replies... with a sad haert I have to say that I am letting go of my OP-1 tomorrow... so there is no need any more for the ground loop isolator... but again: thanks very much for the advice...
