Got three of these on the shelf. I know nothing about them, but I'm pretty sure you American gdiy:ers do.
From what I can tell they were widely used in the mid/late 1980's.

What's your opinion?

I (briefly) tried one on the stereo bus, didn't do anything, but considering they're adjusted for 6dB peak I wasn't surprised.
They were most likely used as program transmitter compressors/limiters. I don't know if the AGC is active or not.

On to my question. Would you invest the time to adjust and/or modify them?

Here's the schem/manual ( I think it's valid for the 260-LM as well):

Invonics made radio broadcast equipment... but judging by the link you already know that.

I have only used their 201 model compressor, it was amazing on vocals.

Acording to the data sheet is's good from 10hZ - 15K

Might be cool.

Thanks! I guess I should have written that I know nothing about their performance or sound.

It would be nice to try them out as compressor-limiters. Now If I could just figure out how to set peak values, cause as it is now, they're not compressing o r reducing. Same thing goes for the AGC - nothing happens.

I suspect it's a matter of setting input (which would have been hotter if used in FM) and output levels.

Blinky lights don't dance?

There's a back-panel option to disable all the fancy-work. Mainly for FCC test, but perhaps in its last days another newer/sexier limiter did the fancy stuff and this was kept in the chain GR-disabled for line-drive or fall-back.

The Input Level pots have ample range. If there is any kind of preampery in front, and any act that needs limiting, it really should dance its meters (lights) and smoosh signal. (Note that the intended smoosh is subtle, not slam.)
