finally after almost 4 million cards have been issued on an unsuspecting public, the 'independant' yet government funded  office of the data protection commissioner has finally blown the whistle .

Just as another example of this governments lack of regard for peoples data ,  In an obvious move to appease big Data/IT and advertising , children over the age of 13 here in Ireland are treated as adults with regards, for instance  Facebooks privacy , data collection  and  marketing policies. Despite us knowing lots more about how our data is being misused in recent years , this  government is prepared to feed children into the human meat grinder that is data aggregation and marketing , its a disgraceful situation .

Just like any other govenment, and what do we expect to do about it when we "vote them in" via govenment properganda or lies.

I am reading a book by a futurist and his discussion about big data is more like a global cultural trend or worldwide evolutionary movement that cannot be stopped/avoided.  While he does not suggest how we will get from here to there, it is far worse than just crazy powerful marketing insights.

In the big data future he hypothesizes about the big data flows will be too large for humans to evaluate or comprehend so it will be our machine intelligence overlords crunching that data for their own(?) use.

When military power no longer depends on human boots on the ground, and economic power evolves away from factories full of human workers, humans will become superfluous.  ::)  Once the machine intelligence gets a stock market account and trades for its own interest using big data, the one percent will become history beholden to some .00001% computer algorithm.  Of course this pivots on machine intelligence gaining self awareness and self interest (some decent science fiction has explored that).

Of course the 400 page book (homo deus) contains a lot more, but this glance in passing seemed almost on topic.

PS: Relax it will take centuries for this to happen, if ever... I don't plan to be around to see it.

Heres the lastest data protection blunder to hit the headlines here ,

https://www.irishexaminer.com/breakingnews/ireland/state-has-advanced-worst-case-scenario-over-graham-dwyer-phone-data-challenge--court-hears-970999.html

It revolves around how a murder case was prosecuted by the state using mobile phone metadata. It has now been shown the states storage and processing of  this data  was contrary to human rights law all along .

This government have saddled themselves with a number of high profile media time bombs with regards data protection , the opposition leader can pull the plug on the minority government at any time by withdrawing support , but naturally enough if theres  firestorms up ahead that allow him  catch the crest of a returing wave of support he's best to make sure the goodship government is well alight and holed below the waterline before triggering an election ,  that on top of a scandal where the  voting system in the Dáil(parliment) was misused by house members on video camera , lets not be fooling ourselves ,theres nothing democratic about any of it .
