i'll be getting a km74 soon, and was wondering if anyone has a schematic handy? i heard there's a standard mod for converting this a-b powering mic so that it can be used with phantom, too?

maybe someone can help me out? if not, i'll contact neumann, of course. it's just that they're rather slow at times, and they send huge sized pdf's

cheers,
volker

I don't have its schemo, but check this thread for some info:

You could call Stephen Paul's lab here in the US.
Do a search to find his web site.
I have heard very good things about his mods to the KM's.

Hi!
Schematic here:

Watch out for these mics. They have some very delicate parts inside. The 'glue' or varnish that holds the transformers in place fails with time. If they move, the wires break.

The auto-transformer in mine was destroyed when it got hit with a drum stick. Now it's a tube mic!

thanks for all your input, people!

looking at the schematic, i see that it's actually a xformerless output. is that necessary for a-b powering? the later km8x series (p48) did use xformers again, so there must be some reasons...?

does anyone have experience with km7x? do they perform differently than the km8x series to some respect?

thanks,
volker
