Well thats a term I've read hear in the forum. I used the La2a recently for the first time as a mic pre. I was recording rock guitars, stereo...those mics going thru 1272's. With the room I decided to try the La2a.

I had to crank the gain all the way up to get the level I needed.....Pro tools enviroment by the way.... That was ok i found ...it sounded just fine to say the least.. I was expecting hiss, noise, but it worked great.

So I want to try using the La2a as a preamp for tracking line level keyboards. Now I know that the UTC-A10 gives several options regarding impedance.

I did do a search regarding this topic and found nothing. I don't seem to have the hang of this search engine this site uses.....I'm sure its error on my behalf.

Does anybody care to respond to this issue? Using the La2a as a preamp for unbal, keyboard signals. Thought I would ask. I thought I would see if others had done this. Probably a dumn ass question but I dont care.

Thats how I learn. By either digging in and spending a bunch of time via trial and error or via someone pointing out the fact that "Hey its been done a million times dummy this is how you do it.

It's like goiing to a Jazz Jam with the best Jazz musicians in town and sitting in with them. One of the finest drummers in Portland Oregon told me that humilation is one of the best teachers.

That is so true. I have felt like an ass many times in this forum for asking stupid questions. But when I look back at what I know now and what I knew a year ago? Not bad, I have learned much. I need to shut up.

So, any feedback on this area would be great.

Cheers as the english say and Bis spater as the Germans say. Can't help but notice those are two cultures/nationality's that have designed outstanding audio gear.

Just try it ! sometimes I just plug it straight into the LA-2a with the cold
shorted to ground... sounds great to my ears

sometimes I go through the G9 to get some more heat...

I bet it does, I will try this very soon. Very simple indeed however, that information you gave me about joining pin 2 to ground, I probably would have failed to do that thus having poor results possibly. You may have saved me a lot of time.

Thank you very much for your reply.

As far as I know you always have to short the cold to ground when connecting an unbalanced jack to a TRANSFORMER-balanced input/output.
I might be wrong though. Maybe some pro around here can confirm....

I think grounding pins 1 & 3 is right for un-bal.

Yup, that should be right... Pin 1 = Ground, Pin 2 = Hot, Pin 3 = Cold.
