Hi fellas,
Well I found the problem....I had the jumper on 12ax7 #2 going from pin 2-8 instead of pin 3-8!!!!! DOH!!
It's amazing the tricks your brain plays on you sometimes....when I was checking it over I looked straight at it a few times and thought, yep, that's right.
The voltages look normal now but the Ne2 still doesn't glow.
Could I have damaged something with this bad wiring?
Anyway, enough of that for now...I'm just busting to tell everyone about my first session with my 2 new G7 microphones. I thought the coolest thing would be impressing my colleages with these DIY mics, I mean I put a lot of work into the visual aesthetics of the mics (they look pretty good if I do say so myself..ahem!) :green: But that's nothing compared to the way they sounded....WOW!!! Big, fat, juicy, warm etc. ad nauseam.
I recorded piano with them and tracked a pair of AT4050s simultaneously so that I could A-B them.
The ATs in comparison were thin and kinda lifeless really.
Boy, I was walking on air I was so happy.
Then, I tried them on violin and cello and again just awesome.
Next I recorded female and male speech....beautiful
Finally, I recorded a female crying, weeping and wailing full out like a banshee and it was spine tingling....just incredible.
In case you're wondering, I'm designing the sound for a play...music, sound FX and all that.
JAKOB ERLAND....YOU DA MAN!! :sam: :sam: :sam: :sam: :sam:
Thank you for designing and publishing this brilliant DIY project.
If anyone had told me 3 years ago that I could make something this fantastic i never would have believed them. After all, not very long before that I had just started fooling with electronics with my first pseudo DIY project, a Paia tube mic pre which in fact I used on yesterday's session.
Later this week I'll post some sound clips and pix of the mics.(the A-B clips with the AT4050s as well)
Cheers, :thumb:
