LM3915-16 LED driver question...

... is it safe to use less LED's?  Like 8 instead of 10.

I want to use the LM3915 & have a nice, functional circuit working but I only want to use 7-8 LEDs for this particular meter... will it cause any problems, damage the chip or inject any NOISE into the circuit (Audio)?

API does this using only 5 LEDs... It's perfectly safe and sound.

I never saw that schematic before... they do some crazy stuff with the 3915.
