Marshall Pilot / Indicator Light... DIY?

I've got a Marshall 2266 Vintage Modern with a blown pilot / indicator light (LED).

Where I can find replacements, shipping costs to Australia are exorbitant (the most I saw was $175... to get an LED to my door... you have to be kidding me!!!).


I'm wondering if I could just DIY a fix. The component in totality is below. Not much to it.
Surely, with a bit of patience to disassemble, I could just replace the blown LED itself?

Could you wire up another LED with dropping resistor, drill a hole, and glue that one in? I'm guessing the plastic would distribute the light enough for it to look decent. Maybe a high brightness one?

Looking at it more closely, it looks like the white bit is a separate assembly and has a "key" (if you will) that fits into the square hole on the top of the barrel. It might be an easy pull if not glued in place.

Yeah drill it out and shrink wrap the whole mess and glue it in there.
